Young Writers work with Tinderbox Ensemble
Posted on 25 August 2010 in Dramaturgy
Four young writers are having their work developed through workshops with the TRUE NORTH ensemble this week. Rick Miles, Johnson Orr, Kristiina Kriisa and Mickey McCullough are half way through this years Young Writers Programme; Fireworks. After having finished the second draft of their plays, they are spending the week seeing professional actors test their scripts and ideas out on the floor. The workshop is a great opportunity to get to know the actors and to be part of the new writing ensemble. The writers will also see the three plays currently in rehearsal at different points in their development so they get an understanding of the how a play goes from rehearsals to opening night. This will hopefully help them finish their own plays to a very high standard.
“The workshop with actors is the most important part of the Young Writers Programme as a writer learns more from seeing theatre professional tackle their characters and story line than anything we can cover in the skills workshops in the programme” says Tinderbox Dramaturg Hanna Slattne. After the workshops the writers will write a final draft that will be presented as rehearsed readings in the 18th of October at the Culturlan on the Falls Road. If you are interested in coming along to see their work please contact the Tinderbox office on firstname.lastname@example.org. Fireworks is an annual programme for writers age 16 -25.
