Fireworks – Young Writers Programme

The Tinderbox’s flag ship young writers programme returns in a new exciting version funded by the Belfast City Council. If you are an aspiring theatre writer between 18 and 25 this is for you.

Fireworks takes a select group of young writers through the process of writing a stage play, from first idea through rehearsals to a performance draft. Participants then get to see their work performed in a rehearsed reading in front of an audience.

The programme consists of skills workshops, seeing productions, reading and analysing plays and writing a 10 minute piece, through several drafts. There will be a development workshop with professional actors before the final draft is written, and the script is then rehearsed and presented. The focus is at all times on preparing the participants for writing for the professional stage. Through the programme they will learn about the script writing industry and meetings will be arranged with significant producers in Theatre, Radio and Screen writing.

This year we are putting Belfast at the heart of the process. Each writer will be given an exciting Belfast location as an inspiration as well as a contact for research. The end result will be a diverse, inspiring portrait of the city and the people living and working here.

If you want to apply please make sure your application reaches us by 12 noon on Monday 12th of October. This should include:
