Being Here

Being Here: A Sense of Place writers residency

Annaghmakerrig, County Monaghan, November 2008

To celebrate 20 years of supporting New Writing north and south of the border Tinderbox and Fishamble invited 6 writers from each area to come and work together for a week at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Annaghmakerrig.

Tinderbox regularly work in partnership with BBC Northern Ireland Drama in supporting the regions writers so it was a natural partner for this project  as was BBC Writersroom with its new focus on supporting writers in the regions. The BBC coming on board gave the project a real boost in targeting the content during the week.

These connections led us to this exciting cross border and cross medium project. The activities of the week were targeted to look in detail at the early part of the writers’ process by focusing on how we come up with story ideas and what the writers pre-occupations behind those ideas are so the pieces are carefully thought through, relevant to our audiences and developed with the specific strength of the different medias we are writing for.
