Theatre of Paranoia

Kevin Jones is greatly surprised when a group of actors burst into his house and put on a play. His surprise turns to shock when it turns out the play is about him. Theatre of Paranoia is a witty satire on political apathy, and an entertaining send-up of ‘trendy’ theatre.

The action takes place in Belfast in the early ’80’s. A chance encounter with a childhood sweetheart draws struggling pop musician Andy into a tangled web of political intrigue. When the play opens Andy is being held by the RUC for questioning after his van has been used in a bomb attack. He denies all knowledge of the incident, but gradually through a series of flashbacks the extent of his involvement becomes apparent. Allowing his emotions to overrule his better judgement Andy, had lent the keys of the van to his childhood sweetheart, fully aware of her connections with Sinn Fein and the IRA.

Andy’s personal dilemma provides the backdrop for a drama which examines the nature of individual and collective responsibility towards our society.
